Requirements under B1 Means of Warning and EscapeThe requirement under means of warning and escape is that the building shall be constructed so that there are appropriate provisions for the early warning of fire, and appropriate means of escape in case of fire from the building to a place of safety outside the building capable of being safely and effectively used at all material times. This satisfies the requirement for a means of escape. This is a suitable means of escape since exit is located opposite the kitchen and dining area where the materials and furnishings have a higher degree and tendency of combustion due to the nearness and proximity of cooking appliances and other similar equipment. However, there is a need to provide a similar effective means of escape at the second storey of the proposed house since none is included in the drawings and plans.
